The Empty Bowls committee projects that this year we will need 350-400 more bowls than the amount projected from potter donations. We can do this!

To make sure we have enough bowls, and things will run a little differently this year.  All Clay Alliance members and their family and friends are invited to a pot-luck at FUNKe FIRED ARTS from 4-8 on Saturday, cure October 12^th. Come share in our community, and enjoy the wonderful food that all you potters always bring to share.

During that time period, potters who have considerable experience on the wheel or or with hand-building are invited to use the studio, free high-fire clay, and trimming tools to make as many HIGH QUALITY bowls as they can crank out. Our experienced potters will hopefully have time to trim pots before they depart for the evening,  but understand that this might not be possible for some people. Anyone who has time to volunteer their trimming skills can sign up to help out at the event. Guests and less experienced potters are encouraged to stick around to cheer on the bowl-makers and maybe pick up a few tricks and tips from the masters in our community.

Once all 400 pots are bisque fired, They will be split between cone 10 oxidation, cone 10 reduction, and cone 6. The cone 6 pots will be split between Core Clay and FUNKe FIRED ARTS for firing. We may also need experienced glazers to donate time as well.

So, to be clear, this year we are asking experienced potters in our group to make bowls at the Throw-a-Thon that will be donated above and beyond what the individual potter creates and donates in his or her studio–If you have promised the Clay Alliance a donation of 12 bowls, bowls created on October 12 would not count toward that total.

So we invite you to be super generous with your time and talents, knowing that now, more than ever, children need the support of the Kids Cafe of the Free Store Food Bank–the beneficiary of our Empty Bowls event. Help us make sure that every child in our community has enough to eat.
